Doctor recommended for anyone who suffers from seasonal affective disorder.
Full spectrum bulbs are made of a special hand-blown
glass that is not colored or coated, but instead contain
a rare earth element, neodymium. This element absorbs
yellow and other dulling components of the spectrum and
produces a purified light that is whiter and brighter
than light obtained from standard bulbs. The light
enhances black and white on written pages and makes
colors appear more accurately. Houseplants and pets
will also benefit from the Plant Lamp; it provides plants
with the specific wavelength of light required and is
recommended as a sun simulating light source for captive
indoor pets.
Standard bulbs are clear and come in 60, 100, and 150 watts
or in a frosted 3 way 50/100/150 watt bulb.
60-watt reflector bulbs for spots (R20-type) and 75-watt and 150-watt reflector bulbs (R30 and R40)
for recessed and track lighting are frosted. The MR16 full spectrum lightbulb is clear.
All bulbs burn an average of 4,000 hours -- four times
longer than ordinary bulbs (MR16 has an average life of 5,000 hours). Made by Chromalux.
Also available: full spectrum tubes for
fluorescent lamps.
