Internet Shopping 101: for First-Time Internet Shoppers
How to Place Your First Order On-Line

Welcome to Comfort House! So many of our customers have told us they chose Comfort House for their first on-line buying experience that we've created How To Order instructions just for you. We'll take you step-by-step through the on-line ordering process. (Experienced shoppers: You probably already know the routine.)

Please don't be frightened by the length of our Internet Shopping lesson. Because we've included each and every detail about the ordering process, the lesson at first glance may make on-line shopping appear more complex than it really is. In fact, ordering is actually simple and straightforward. After you complete this lesson, you will be able to move through the steps very quickly next time.

If you have a printer handy, please begin by printing these directions and keep them along side you while you place your first Internet order. The process will be easier with printed directions.

Some things you should know before you start:
  • All items in an order must ship to the same address, but they do not have to ship to your address.
  • You may ship items anywhere. But if you are shipping items to more than one address, please place a separate order for each address.
  1. Find the first item you want to order. If you are looking at one of our main pages, click on any item to see the full description and price. If the item comes in more than one color or size, click the small arrow on the right side of the selector box, point to the color or size you want, and then click again. Go on to step 2. Even if you want to order the same item in other colors or sizes, you must first complete steps 2 and 3.
    Click the button that says "Add to cart or place order" and watch the ORDER FORM open.
    The ORDER FORM enables you to add an item to your order, change your order, finish your order, and/or continue to shop. Here are some of the things you can do from the order form:


    • To change the quantity of an item that you are sending to the first address, highlight the "1" and type in the number of items you want. Then click the Update Quantities button under the order form.

    • To remove an item that appears on the order form, click the word "Remove" (at the far right of the form).

    • To go back to an item again for any reason, click the name of the item or its picture to return to the item's page.

    • Then, to return to the order form, click the Show Order button in the upper-right corner of the page (next to the Comfort House logo) or click the phrase "View Cart/Complete Order" near the bottom of the page.

    • To order additional colors or sizes of the same item to ship to the same address, click the name of that item to return to its page. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

    • If at the bottom of the order form you see a list of products related to the one you are ordering, and you would like to view one of the items, click on the item.

    • To continue shopping for other items TO SHIP TO THE SAME ADDRESS, click the Keep Shopping button. The next page you see contains more information about shopping at Comfort House. Once you have reviewed this information, click the CONTINUE SHOPPING button at the top or bottom of the page to go back into the product shopping area.

    • To continue shopping for other items TO SHIP TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS, please finish shopping for this address first and then start a new order.

    • To finish shopping (check out) for this address, click the Check Out button at the bottom of the order form.


  2. The next page you see will start with the Order Form. It will look the same as the Order Form you just completed. If you want to make any changes, click the Back button on your browser to return to the interactive order form.

  3. You are now ready to complete the section called Choose the shipping address.

  4. Position your mouse cursor in the box next to the word Name. Type in the full name of the person who is receiving this order. (It might be you.) PLEASE DO NOT USE QUOTATION MARKS (even for a nickname) ANYWHERE on the order form.

  5. Press the Tab key on your keyboard to move the cursor to the Address box.

  6. Fill in the address of the person who is receiving this order. Use the first line here for a suite number, apartment number, or company name if appropriate. Press the Tab key to go to the second address line. Use it to complete the address if necessary; otherwise leave blank. PLEASE DO NOT USE QUOTATION MARKS ANYWHERE on the order form.

  7. Press the Tab key to move to the City box. Type in the city name.

  8. Repeat step 7 for the State, Zip, and Phone.

  9. Press the Tab key to enter the Country. If the Shipping Address is in the United States, don't do anything. If you are shipping to an address in another country, click the arrow on the right side of the box, use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to find the country you want, highlight the entry, and click.

  10. Press the Tab key to continue.

  11. Choose your Shipping Option. To do so, click the small arrow on the right side of the shipping-option selector box, point to the option you want, and click.


    • Click RESIDENTIAL DELIVERY/GROUND for standard shipping to any residence in the 48 contiguous United States.

    • Click COMMERCIAL DELIVERY/GROUND for standard shipping to any nonresidential address in the 48 contiguous states. "Nonresidences" include but are not limited to places of business such as office buildings, factories, and restaurants; hotels, motels, inns, and bed & breakfast establishments (even if you live there), and schools.

    • Click AIR SERVICE to order Rush Shipping to any address in the USA. Various rush options are available. NOTE: You must call 1-800-359-7701 during business hours (8AM-4:30PM Eastern time Monday-Friday) to arrange for AIR SERVICE. Your order will not be released until you call.

    • Click ALASKA/HAWAII if that's where you are shipping. We will contact you for approval only if extra shipping charges are necessary.

    • Similarly, click MILITARY APO/FPO or US TERRITORIES or CANADA/MEXICO if one of these options applies to your order. We will contact you for approval only if extra shipping charges are necessary.

    • Click OUTSIDE CONTINENTAL USA if that's the case. We will contact you to discuss shipping options.

    • More information about shipping, such as normal delivery times and shipping to locations outside the contiguous 48 states can be found on the ORDERING INFO page of our website. The address for this page is http://www.comforthouse.com/info.html. You can click onto this page from the top and bottom of every page of our site.

  12. You now have one more opportunity to review your order. Notice that sales tax has been added if you are shipping to New Jersey. The shipping charge you see at this point is for RESIDENTIAL or COMMERCIAL GROUND DELIVERY service in the 48 contiguous U.S. states. We calculate additional charges for other shipping services (such as if you request AIR service) when we physically process your order in our office. Therefore, when using other shipping services, your credit card bill may include charges that do not appear at this time or on the confirmation. We will always contact you for approval prior to making additional charges.
    If an item has a shipping surcharge, that surcharge is added to the total when we physically process your order in our office. Shipping surcharges apply to some oversize/overweight items including but not limited to kitchen islands, kitchen carts, furniture items, mattresses, and the ultra deluxe leg support cushion; shipping surcharges are clearly noted at the end of the product description. (If you are not sure whether an item has a shipping surcharge, click the item's name or picture in the order form to return to that item's page. Then move to the top of the item's page and click the Show Order button to get back to this point.)
  13. Press the Continue Order button.

  14. Choose the Billing Address. If the Billing Address is the same as the Shipping Address, click the Same box and continue. If the Billing Address is not the same as the Shipping Address, then complete this section. Again, PLEASE DO NOT USE QUOTATION MARKS anywhere. (Refer to steps 6-11 if necessary.)

  15. The Billing Address must exactly match the address that you receive your credit card statements at. If it does not, your order will be delayed while we contact both you and your credit card company for order verification. Please check your credit card statement and make any necessary adjustments in the billing address boxes now.

  16. If you are paying by credit card, enter the name of the issuer in the box (for example Citibank, MBNA, Chase). Do not enter your credit card number in this box.

  17. If the item ID number does not end in F and you want to include a gift message, type it here (NO QUOTATION MARKS, PLEASE). You can recheck the item ID by clicking the item name on the order form. To get back to this point, click the Show Order button in the top-right corner of any Comfort House page.

  18. If the item is available for gift wrap and you want to order gift wrapping, click the small box. Choose the type of wrapping paper you desire. The $3/item gift-wrap charge will not be added to your order total in the email confirmation that you will receive but it will be included in the total on your credit card statement.

  19. Please enter your email address so that we can contact you if necessary.

  20. Click in the check box if you want us to email a confirmation to you. We very highly recommend that you opt to receive this email as it serves as your order receipt. Once you receive the email, please print it out for your records.

  21. The comments area is for your general comments only, not for shipping instructions.

    Warning: DO NOT write any shipping instructions in the comments box. If you need to provide additional information of any sort, please call 1-800-359-7701. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY QUOTATION MARKS. If you do, our system cannot read your order!

  22. Choose a Payment Method. To do so, click the small arrow on the right side of the selector box, point to the payment method you want, and click.


    • If you are using a credit card, please type in the number. Then click on the small arrow in the box closest to the words "Expiration Date" to select a month. Repeat in the second box to select the year.

    • If you prefer to call in your credit card number, please do so. We will process your order after we hear from you by phone.

    • If you prefer to mail in a check, please do so. We will process your order when we receive your check. Check-mailing instructions and our address are shown on the information page of our website at http://www.comforthouse.com/info.html.


  23. Click the Yes, Place Order button. (Or if you change your mind, click the Do Not Order button.) Take a look at the confirmation page. Either print it or make a note of the order number for your records. Remember special shipping service charges, shipping surcharges of oversize/overweight items, and gift-wrap charges do not appear on the confirmation but will appear on your credit card bill.

  24. Click Continue. Repeat the process to order items to ship to another address. Thanks for shopping at comforthouse.com. Save these instructions for your next visit.
