Blueair 501 provides a complete air exchange every 11.5 minutes in a room up to 550 square feet. Blueair's exclusive HEPASilent™ filter technology is the secret to the highest levels of Clean Air Delivery Rate or CADR (tells you the amount of 100 percent clean air coming out of an air purifier) and the quietest air purifier available.
HEPASilent technology provides a high level of filtration at low pressure for extra air purification and less noise. 2-stage filter system traps 99.97 percent of particles at .1 microns.
Special sound-insulating, 4-speed motor mounts for nearly silent operation. On speeds 1 and 2, it is virtually inaudible. On speeds 3 and 4 you will hear the unit operating. However, the unit is designed to work on the higher speed settings for only an hour when it is first turned on to quickly reduce indoor pollutants. The unit is then set to one of the lower settings to provide continuous, practically silent filtration of the room air. Noise level on low speed is about 35dB, which compares to noise level of a desktop computer.
To minimize drafts, the Blueair air purifier disperses clean air on 3 sides through an area 6 times greater than the average air cleaner, a process called SurroundAir™. Blueair also is unique in the way it takes in air from the sides and floor.
- Energy Efficient - - Because the HEPASilent technology in the Blueair 501 results in less air pressure to move air through the filter, the 501 uses a very small amount of electricity. On its lowest speed it uses the energy of a 15-watt light bulb, and on its highest speed a 70-watt bulb!

Mechanical and electrostatic technologies in a single air purifier. The typical air cleaner traps particles using either mechanical or electrostatic technology. The Blueair 501 traps nearly 600 percent more dirt than typical air purifiers tested by using both! The secret is in Blueair's special filter material recently developed in Germany and an ozone-free electrostatic precipitator that charges particles so they are magnetically attracted to the filter material.
Filters contain millions of ultra thin fibers in 3 sizes. Larger particles are trapped first, followed by medium and then small. Filters resist loading or clogging and continue filtration at peak performance levels longer. This dual technology explains how the Blueair 501 traps more particles using filters that are less dense than other air cleaners. Since air flows more easily through the Blueair 501, it cleans larger volumes of air with far less noise than typical air cleaners.
Blueair air purifiers are put under the most stringent test of the Food and Drug Administration for indoor medical devices, which specifies that ozone output be no more than 0.5 ppm. Under these tests, Blueair units are shown to have zero ozone emission. In one ozone test, a Blueair model was positioned in the center of a closed room and continuously monitored for 24 hours. The test showed that the ozone level in the room decreased when the unit was running.
Uses either 3 Blueair particle filters or 3 Blueair SmokeStop filters. Particle filter removes many airborne allergens and lung-damaging pollutants such as house and textile dust, pollen, smoke, cat and dog dander, dust mites and their feces, automobile exhaust, soot particles from laser printers and copiers, bacteria, fungus and mold spores. To maximize filter effectiveness, particles are bombarded with a negative electrostatic charge as they are drawn toward the filter. Each filter contains more than 400 thin, actively-charged carbon-fiber layers that absorb odors. Uses 3 HEPASilent filters at a time, and filter life is 6 months.
SmokeStop filter combines the particle filter with an enhanced active carbon filter for heavy-duty odor control. This filter is best suited for use in areas that may fill with heavy gaseous pollutants such as cigarette and cigar smoke. Filter life is 6 months.
